The intent of this website is to help calibration technicians and end users in the maintenance, repair, and calibration of the measuring equipment, and to teach basic lessons about metrology. Everything comes from the perspective of a calibration technician, and is written simply so hopefully as many people of as many backgrounds and languages as possible are able to find the information useful to them.
I do not believe in proprietary information, as everything has a manual, a governing specification (ASME, ASTM) or government procedure (NAVAIR, GIDEP). Manufacturer’s are anxious to teach you about their products, and almost all reputable manufacturer’s will share their calibration procedures and equipment maintenance information at least with qualified individuals. This is done in some cases, as with Fluke or Omega, by posting the information in the manual or on the product website so it’s easily accessible by everyone – you paid for the product, you should be able to use and adjust it. Other manufacturer’s will provide this information upon answering requests from end users and technicians specifically. Those manufacturer’s that don’t share their information with anyone because they feel they are the only ones qualified to work on their equipment are cheating their customers and I do not recommend their products be purchased by any of my customers. I go well out of my way to see to it my customers do not purchase their products.
The point I’m getting at, and the justification of our intent is that all of this information is out there and available to everyone anyway. I hope to collect it and present it in a fashion that makes it easy for people to navigate and use when they are in a bind, on the spot, in the field. I also hope to be able to answer questions and learn with my readers when the information provided isn’t enough or good enough.
